It seems the biggest stories of the summer have to happen within 2 hours of one another. After an entire summer of rumours swirling around Lebron and Kyrie and who will go where, Kyrie has been traded to the Celtics for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, some guy named Ante Zizic and Brooklyn’s coveted first round pick in 2018.
Irving, 25, averaged a career-high 25.2 points to go along with 5.8 dimes, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.2 steals last season. He has two guaranteed years left on his contract that’ll see him earn about $39 million. It’s believed the former first overall pick wants out of Cleveland and into a situation where he can be the focal point player. Boston is a team where he would be the #1 option, with a supporting cast that is capable of pushing to the post-season. Gordon Hayward provides efficiency and big name talent that compliments Kyrie significantly.
Thomas, 28, is coming off a career year that saw him average 28.9 points (third in the NBA), 5.9 assists, and 2.7 boards per contest for the Celtics, who finished atop the East. He has one year remaining on his bargain deal, and is expecting the next team to pay him an astronomical contract.
The 2017-18 regular season opens Oct. 17 with the Cavaliers hosting the Celtics, thanks Adam Silver.
In terms of who won this trade, who knows. Huge X Factors here will be how each player fits into their new teams system. Will Kyrie be able to assimilate into the #1 role? Will I.T understand he is the #2 option? What is Kevin Love doing? All these questions will be answered this season.
Another wild card in this trade is the value of the 1st round pick, and how that player pans out. Brooklyn honestly has the potential to finish in the bottom 5 yet again, so this pick could frankly pan out into a 1st overall pick.
Another year old story is that Jon Jones tested positive for steroids. C’mon Bones, at this point with USADA clearly not fucking around, why risk the fines and public shaming that he already knows will happen. Similar to baseball, we all assume most guys do something that is frowned upon or full out illegal. Drug tests are seemingly intelligence tests at this point. Who knows id it was dick pills again or some other wacky substance in baby powder or some garbage. Jones could face a lengthy suspension from mixed martial arts after the UFC light heavyweight champion was notified Tuesday of his second potential violation of the promotion’s anti-doping policy. Jones is widely considered the top pound-for-pound fighter in the sport, but his potential violation stems from a sample collected after his weigh-in July 28 for his title fight against Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 in Anaheim, California.
Jones won the fight and reclaimed his 205-pound belt after sitting out the previous year for a failed doping test. The victory appeared to be a return to glory for a long-troubled fighter who has repeatedly hindered his stellar career with misbehaviour outside the octagon. At this point, Jones might be in a pickle. This suspension could last several years, costing him undoubtedly millions of dollars. His next fight rumored to be against Brock Lesnar (notorious P.E.D user as well) will probably be sidelined.
You really sewered me Bones. This fight against Brock could have been one of the biggest ever. I’d say a juiced up Brock would have been a solid match, with Bones ultimately beating him like bear does a fish. Now Dana White is yelling about how this might be the end of your career.
My solution for all this news, trade Jon Jones to Brooklyn, and get Lebron in the octagon. He wants to leave Cleveland and is bigger than Jones. I’m not a conspiracy guy, I’m a connect the dots guy. Pretty sure Lebron wants to be in the UFC. Kyrie can stay where he is and I.T can continue being bad at playing defense.
Oh and can Tiger Wood’s catch a break? Its been about a decade since Tiger has had a solid media day. After nudes of him leaked, there’s a solid chance he’ll get some kind of Hulk Hogan-esque law suit going. At this point, his package has caused more headlines than pretty much any other athlete this decade. Arguably the only guy to have this kind of publicity is Bill Clinton, and he turned out just fine.
Tiger is my favourite athlete, not for his athletic achievements but for his antics. I can’t think of another big name athlete to consistently make headlines in the strangest ways. It also helps that he’s a golfer. Id argue most NFL players if observed closely would test positive for a cocktail of painkillers, and have dozens of mistresses. But Tiger while being the most interesting golfer,
Is this all because of the solar eclipse? Can Tiger embrace his new persona of adult star? Will Jon Jones stop taking sexual enhancement drugs? Is Lebron scheduled to fight Brock Lesnar? All this and more to come.
