According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post – Ilya Kovalchuk will remain in the KHL for one more season, due to an inability to work on a sign and trade with the Devils. Assuming this report is correct, he was asking for a longer duration and larger contract than the Devils saw manageable by other teams.

At the end of this season Kovalchuk will become a UFA and is free to be courted by any NHL team wanting to take a risk on the 35 year old.

More to come.
