The Washington Capitals announced the long term signing of Evgeny Kuznetsov to an 8 year deal worth 62.4 million on Sunday.
This comes in the wake of free agent frenzy where they clearly wanted to lock up their young talent early.
This puts his cap hit at 7.8 per season, with young players such as Pasternak, and Leon Draisaitl expected to earn similar contracts on their respective teams.
Looking towards the future, the caps have lost Karl Alzner and Justin Williams to free agency already, as well as Nate Schmidt to the expansion. The Capitals still need to address Grubauer’s contract along with Burakovsky’s.
